‘Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’ / Che:k’tles7et’h’ First Nations Fishing Lodge Project

Relationships are a cornerstone of our business. Often in partnership with communities, opportunities present themselves that require trust and the ability to work creatively and quickly to accomplish unique projects. Walter’s Cove, a land based resort in Kyuquot BC, was forced to close due to structural deficiencies. The resort employs many Nation members and is a cornerstone tourism business, and closing it down for the foreseeable future would’ve been a major blow to the community.

Clare Hannigan from VIFM, who had history with the lodge and the Nation, came up with the idea to bring a floating lodge into Kyuquot. In partnership with the Nation, the team at VIFM swiftly worked to refit the Englefield Lodge and transport it on-site, allowing the resort to continue operations.
